Clayton, Delaware is located near the Kent/New
Castle County line just west of Smyrna. In 2001, the EIA noted that this publicly owned municipal
utility had just over 700 customers and sold a total of 8,585,000
kWh of electricity.
Clayton offers no energy efficiency or
renewable energy programs and has no history of doing so.
This municipal utility has no existing interconnection or net
metering policy and strictly prohibits utility grid interconnection
for customer-sited generation.
The town of Clayton plans to annex land to the south
and west and estimates 620 residential new construction homes
completed over the next 5 years.
Clayton is a Delaware Municipal Electric Corporation member
and part owner of the Warren F. “Sam” Beasley Power Station, the 50 MW peak power
facility located in Smyrna, Delaware.
