The City of Seaford, Delaware is located in
the southwest portion of the state and centrally located on the
Delmarva Peninsula. In
2001, the EIA reported that this publicly owned municipal
utility had over 3,380 customers and sold a total of 94,886,000
kWh of electricity.
Presently, the utility offers no energy
efficiency or renewable energy programs and has no history of
doing so. The City
has no existing interconnection rules or net energy metering
policy and prohibits grid interconnection by customer-sited
generation.
The City of Seaford recently annexed 200 acres and
estimates an additional 200 residential new construction homes
to be finished in the next year. Seaford estimates a 2% increase in the industrial sector
during 2003-2004. Seaford is a Delaware Municipal Electric Corporation member and part
owner of the Warren F. “Sam” Beasley Power Station, the 50 MW peak power
facility located in Smyrna, Delaware.The City also owns and operates 7 MW’s of generating
capacity within their service territory.
